Enabling transcription in Webex
The site-level setting. Transcription depends on your Webex site having it switched on. A site administrator enables it in Webex Control Hub under the meeting settings; until then, no host can turn it on individually. If the option is missing from your host controls, this is almost always why.
Per-meeting. As host, you can enable Record meeting transcripts in your Webex preferences so every cloud recording is transcribed, or turn on closed captions during the call from the meeting controls. Recording to the cloud rather than locally is required — local recordings are not transcribed.
Where it lands. The transcript is attached to the recording in your Webex recordings list and can be downloaded as a .vtt file. Depending on site configuration, it may also be emailed to the host when processing completes.
What Webex transcription gives you and what it doesn't
You get timestamped, speaker-attributed text tied to a specific recording. You don't get a summary, extracted action items, or any way to search across meetings — each transcript is an isolated file attached to one recording.
Accuracy is reasonable on clean audio and degrades on conference-room microphones, which is worth accounting for if most of your Webex calls come from a room system rather than individual headsets.
